Safaricom is the latest corporate organization to lend its support to the AITEC “Finance for Your Future”- (FYF) expo slated for the 14th to the 16th of February at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre Nairobi.
The mobile network operator has presented AITEC with a cheque of Kshs 1.4 million as sponsorship for the event which will bring together a wide range of financial and money-management products and services.
The 3-day expo is aimed at educating and informing consumers on how to capitalise on existing investment opportunities. The event, which is targeting more than 10,000 attendees, will provide exhibitors with a marketing platform to showcase their products to the public.
“Kenya’s expanding urban population – and its increasingly connected rural population – struggle for financial security in a complex and confusing market. These series of events will increase investment and financial literacy leaving those attending more knowledgeable and in good stead to make better decisions,” said AITEC Africa’s Events Director, Ryan Moroney.
In order to empower consumers through awareness, Safaricom will exhibit and train visitors on this new micro-savings and micro- credit product, M-Shwari which is a partnership between Commercial Bank of Africa and Safaricom. Consumers will learn about the potential the mobile phone now holds, thanks to M-Shwari, in advancing their personal financial options. M-Shwari currently has over 1.6 million customers who now have access to Micro Savings and Micro credit from the convenience of their mobile phone
“We are supporting the expo because we feel it aligns with our agenda of expanding the financial inclusion space in Kenya. Through our products such as M-PESA and now M-Shwari in partnership with CBA, we have been able to increase the proportion of the population with access to formal financial services,” said Mrs Betty Mwangi-Thuo, Safaricom’s GM for Financial Services.
