Safaricom bags 2 awards at Africa Investment Summit

Ai Index seriesSafaricom has been recognized for its role in deepening Africa’s capital markets through the vibrancy of its listed shares at the 2013 Africa Investor (Ai) Index Series Awards. Safaricom was awarded the Ai 140 Company of the year award due to the value of its shares as measured by market capitalization and liquidity, as measured by the average daily value traded in US dollars.

Safaricom’s CEO Bob Collymore was also named the Ai40 CEO of the Year at the ceremony held at the New York Stock Exchange.

Safaricom which is listed at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) is currently trading at an all-time high share price of Sh8.40 and is the NSE’s most valuable company with a market capitalization of Sh328 billion. The company outperformed eight other nominated listed companies that included East African Breweries Ltd, Equity Bank and the Kenya Commercial Bank.

Most Innovative African Stock Exchange was awarded to the Nairobi Securities Exchange, while Safaricom was recognised both for Best Performing Ai40 Company and Ai40 CEO of the Year, where Robert Collymore, CEO of Safaricom took the honours. Kenya Commercial Bank meanwhile was awarded Most Innovative Ai SRI 30 Company.

The Africa investor (Ai) Index Series Awards ceremony coincided with the 6th annual Africa investor CEO Institutional Investment Summit, held in association with NYSE Euronext. The Summit brought together over 250 international investors, African CEOs, pension funds and capital market professionals to explore investment partnerships in African assets and equities.
