The CA board positions became vacant after ICT ministry CS Joe Mucheru gazette the vacancies last Friday – February 5, 2016 – in a special gazette notice dated February 4, 2016.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6B (1) (a) of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, the Cabinet Secretary for information, Communications and Technology declares vacancies in the positions of members of the Board of the Communications Authority of Kenya and invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the positions of members of the Board of the Communications Authority of Kenya,” states the Gazette Notice.
The applications have to be forwarded to the selection panel within seven days of publication of the Gazette Notice, dated the February 4, 2016, meaning that applications have to be submitted by Friday, February 12, 2016 to be considered.
The Gazette Notice followed the CS Mucheru’s decision to withdraw an appeal against Justice George Odunga ruling that the 7 board members had been gazetted out of time.
However, the CA Board chair – Ngene Gituku – was not affected by the ruling, according to an article in the COFEK website.
The out-going board members are Wilbert Choge, Ken Nyaundi, Grace Munjuri, Levi Obondo, Hellen Kinoti, Beatrice Opee and Peter Mutie.
In October 24, 2014, ICT Association of Kenya’s Adrian Kamotho Njenga went to court, arguing that the appointments were unconstitutional.
