Andela, which provides global firms with access to the top tech talent from Africa, has launched a campaign to admit its first ‘All female class’ of students which it aims to train and turn into the next crop of ‘world class’ software developers.
The programme is a four-year, paid Technical Leadership Program designed to shape trainees into an elite software developer. Through the training and work with top global technology companies, the students are expected to master the professional and technical skills needed to become a technology leader, both on the continent and around the world.
The programme announcement states that all applicants need to go through the Home Study curriculum to understand the very basics of software development.
“As a high-performing Andela Fellow, you are guaranteed ongoing professional development training and employment with Andela for a period of four years. After the four-year program, Andela Fellows can be expected to start their own technology companies, go on to work at other companies seeking employees of the highest calibre or be hired by Andela to continue our mission of training 100 thousand young Africans across the continent,” states the announcement.
Successful applicants will participate in a two-week, full-time bootcamp at an Andela campus led by senior developers. They will also be expected to learn independently as well as work on a team to deliver a final project.
The application deadline is April 8, 2016 and can be done online.
Andela calls itself a ‘new kind of academic experience’ – sort of like a university, only that instead of paying tuition, students earn a healthy income and benefits. Once the student is done with basic training and ready to advance, they are placed as a member of a remote team with one of the partner companies around the globe within 6 months. This thereby enables them to apply the new knowledge gained to real work situations, while Andela provides them with ongoing professional development and coaching to ensure that they evolve with the industry and graduate with the maximum potential for long term success.
