Wilson Ndolo Ayah, who served as Safaricom’s first board chairman, has passed on at the age of 84.
Mr Ayah served as Minister of Research Science and Technology and later Minister of Foreign Affairs in President Daniel Arap Moi’s government. He was first appointed Minister for Research Science and Technology in August 1987 and later served as Foreign Affairs Minister from 1990-1993.

Ayah, who at one time also served as chairman of Telcom Kenya, was a long serving politician, having been elected to Parliament in 1969 to represent Kisumu Rural constituency till 1974.
He later came back to politics, being elected as Kisumu Town MP in 1983 before he switched back to Kisumu Rural in1992.
After retiring from active politics, Ayah was appointed the first chairman of Safaricom.
He leaves behind a son, Dr Richard Ayah, according to The Star.
