Synergy Innovations Kenya, the firm behind the locally-designed smartphone brand – SILK Mobile – has been granted permission to use Brand Kenya Board’s ‘Mark of Identity’ logo on its handsets following a successful audit of the company’s devices.
In a letter addressed to Synergy Innovations’ MD George Kangara at the end of March 2016, Brand Kenya Board states that an audit conducted at Synergy offices in Nairobi “revealed that the SILK phone meets the threshold for locally manufactured products with high standards of quality.”
“We are therefore glad to inform you that the Brand Kenya Board has offered you the preferential rights to use the Mark of Identity on the flagship SILK phone and all other subsequent models of the phone,” states the letter signed by Brand Kenya Board’s marketing and communication director Dr Nzilu Musyoki.
The development means that SILK devices will henceforth enjoy the benefits of differentiation as it becomes a preferred choice for consumers in retail stores, both locally and internationally.
Synergy Innovations – whose SILK Patriot 55 handset is already on sale in retail stores countrywide – submitted its application to Brand Kenya Board in mid December last year.
Apart from Brand Kenya Board, the SILK mobile has already been approved by Kenya Bureau of Standards, Communications Authority of Kenya and US’ Federal Communications Commission.
