The global body in charge of internet, ICANN, has in partnership with the Kenya Network Information Centre (KeNIC) organized a YouthComm (Youth Community) workshop. The two-day workshop will run from May 25 – 26 , 2016 in Nairobi.
The Youthcom workshop initiative targets to introduce the youth (under 30 years) from various backgrounds not only to ICANN but the wider Internet ecosystem with an aim of ensuring this new audience, are prepared early enough to help them participate effectively in the internet ecosystem when they grow older.
The workshop will be conducted at African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI).
“Effectively, this particular programme further enhances other ICANN programs like NexTGen and Fellowship that you may be aware of, only that this is an opportunity to reach as many youth at the national level as possible over a 2-day workshop. ICANN has identified experienced facilitators supported by ICANN staff and community members with diverse knowledge in Internet Governance and Policy Making that will go a long way in mentoring the youth,” states the workshop announcement.
The first workshop of this series took place on April 16-26, 2016 in Ouagadougou Burkina Faso and Kenya becomes the second country to host this important regional initiative.
