Genue Mwaura, former Safaricom executive, appointed Zuku CFO




Wananchi Group’s home entertainment brand Zuku has appointed Genue Mwaura as the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) in a new bid to improve productivity and efficiency of service delivery.

Mwaura is the former Head of Finance Operations and Investor Relations at Safaricom.

“These management changes have been necessitated by the desire to keep up with the technological advancements, process enhancements, changing customer demands and new market trends,” Wananchi Group CEO Santiago Benedit said.

The changes also target to improve efficiency and offer better services to customers and ensure return on investment to the shareholders.

Speaking at the firm’s headquarters at Gateway Business Park along Mombasa Road, Benedit said that making the changes were necessary to meet the overall goals, purpose and mission of the organization in line with its strategic plans.

“I would like to congratulate those who have been assigned new roles and hope they will find their positions both challenging and rewarding,” Benedit said

Prior to joining Wananchi Group, Genue Mwaura was the Head of Finance Operations and Investor Relations at Safaricom. He has also worked in various roles at Vodacom Group South Africa and Vodafone Group in UK. He brings with him a wealth of experience gained while working locally and internationally in various roles in Finance and Strategy including, Governance, Treasury, Business turnaround, Business planning, Financial Control and Management at Vodafone, Vodacom, Coca Cola Africa and East African Breweries.

Mwaura holds an MBA in Strategy and is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants UK (FCCA). He is also a CPA (K), CPS and a Chartered Management Accountant.

Michael Dabaly, the new Sales, Marketing and Corporate Communications Director for the Cable Division will oversee Cable Sales, Marketing and Corporate Communications across Wananchi Group Cable operations. He will also be responsible for introducing Fiber services across the East African region and beyond.

Dabaly has a wealth of experience earned within major telecommunication companies and multinational entities including, British American Tobacco, R J Reynolds East & Southern Africa. He previously worked at Zain Group in Amsterdam and later in the Middle East where he was Group Commercial Director covering 22 operations across Middle East and Africa.

He is an alumni of London Business School from which he holds a certification in Advanced Management. He also holds a Bachelors of Commerce honours degree.

Wananchi Group offers a Triple Play service that includes broadband, multi-channel digital television and voice telephony. The Zuku barnd is present in five African countries namely Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi and Zambia. The company is a major player across East and Southern Africa with investments of over (US$ 410 million). Zuku TV has over 150 channels on the Zuku Satellite platform which are developed to resonate with local audiences.
