MTN yet to name new Uganda CEO as Brian Gouldie’s term ends


Brian Gouldie, who has headed MTN operation in Uganda since 2014, is set to leave the firm at the end of this month after serving in the CEO position for 2 years.

Gouldie was seconded to MTN Uganda from the group’s head office in South Africa in July 2014.

The outgoing CEO, who seems set to leave the MTN Group altogether, has had a long stint at the telco, stretching over two decades. He joined MTN South in 1994 as a Billing Manager in the firm’s Johannesburg office before rising to Financial Operations Manager, GM for Subscriber Operations and later GM for Distribution and Fulfillment. In April 2001, he was moved to MTN Nigeria as a Customer Relations Executive before he was elevated to the position of Chief Business Operations Officer and later Chief Sales and Distribution Officer in October 2004. In 2006, he was again moved back to South Africa and appointed Consumer Business Unit Executive and later Chief Sales and Service Officer  in 2008.   He served in this role for over 3 years till April 2011 when he was appointed Chief Consumer Sales and Distribution Officer and Chief Marketing Officer in charge of MTN South Africa.

Gouldie replaced Mazen Mroue who was the MTN Uganda CEO for another 2 years from June 2012 to June 2014.
