PesaPal’s Agosta Liko named among most influential fintech leaders in 2016




Pesapal founder and CEO Agosta Liko has been recognised as one of the top 100 most influential fintech leaders in 2016 by tech and business site Hot Topics.

Liko was among other business leaders from leading tech companies such as Apple, PayPal, Facebook and Visa recognised at the event held recently.

To compile the list, Hot Topics partnered with tech executive search firm, 360Leaders, and London-based newspaper City AM where the nominees were required to meet certain criteria.

The individuals selected were required to have among other things: founded, built or run companies that are driving innovation in financial services through technology; invested in the companies that are dominating the fintech sector; driven change within large, global financial institutions through investing in and integrating technology and also have a significant following and influence within the fintech sector and have set the agenda for key trends throughout the year.

PesaPal provides a simple, safe and secure way for individuals and businesses to make and accept payments in Africa, with its payment system working on the internet and directly on the handset. The firm has partnerships with banks, MNOs and credit card companies to give consumers as many payment options as possible.

Also recognised among the Top 100 Most Influential fintech leaders is Elizabeth Rossiello, the co-founder and CEO of BitPesa.

“It is no secret that the financial services industry continues to be transformed by the digital revolution. According to PWC, roughly 20% of financial services business is at risk of disruption to fintech companies by 2020. It follows that investment into the sector continues to rise. In 2015, funding of fintech businesses more than doubled from the previous year, reaching $12.2 billion in total(up from $5.6 billion in 2014). The way in which consumers and businesses pay, loan and manage their money has been revolutionized by technology and innovation,” states Hot Topics.

The first listing of the 100 most influential fintech leaders was done in 2015.
