Thomas Hintze appointed Wananchi Group CEO, a year after Richard Alden left

Wananchi Group Kenya has announced the appointment of Thomas Hintze as its new  Group CEO. Hintze joins Wananchi Group from UPC Austria, a Liberty Global company, where he was Chairman and CEO for 14 years.

His extensive experience in senior executive roles within the Telecommunications, Media and Technology industry will be invaluable in steering Wananchi Group Kenya Limited to the next level.

He holds a MSc. in Electrical Engineering from Technical University of Vienna, Austria and was awarded a Visiting Professor title for his teaching at National and International Universities. He served as Chairman or Board Member at Webster University, USA; Kabel-Wuerttemberg, Germany; Blizoo, Bulgaria; American Chamber of Commerce and Multimedia, Austria. Thomas also served as Industrial Advisor for Private Equity firm EQT, Sweden and Red Bull Media House, Austria.

“In 1988, Hintze changed to Nixdorf computers where he worked as concessionaire responsible for the market introduction of the Nixdorf-private branch exchange (PBX). From 1990 to 2000 he served as Director and Vice President of data/corporate networks at Datakom Austria GmbH,” states Hintze’s bio on the Webster University website, where he serves as chair of the executive advisory board.

As CEO, Hintze takes over a position that has been vacant since the departure of Richard Alden, the former who served in the position till November 2015. 

Launched in 2008, Wananchi Group is a home entertainment provider best known for its Zuku triple play subscription service.
