Just a week after we reported the departure of Joel Chacha from Tell-Em, it appears the firm had lost another Senior Account Manager to an industry rival in May. Rodgers Wabito, who joined Tell-Em in mid 2014 from Hill and Knowlton (H+K) Strategies, reportedly left at the end of April before joining Avid PR at the beginning of May.
Wabito, who moved to PR after a short stay in the newsroom, was a reporter at the People newspaper from 2005 to 2007. The People has since been rebranded to People Daily (PD) after its publisher – Kalamka Enterprises – was acquired by Mediamax.

His PR stint began in mid 2007 at Gina Din Corporate Communications where he served as a Media Executive until mid 2010 when he was elevated to Account Manager. It is from this role that he later moved to H+K with others, also from Gina Din.
At Tell-Em, Wabito was part of the team that handled various tech-related accounts including Microsoft, Truecaller, Huawei and Oracle.
From its client profile, Avid PR doesn’t seem to have any IT and tech-related accounts on its portfolio. However, the PR agency’s parent company, BSD Group (acronym for Brand, Strategy and Design) lists Internet Solutions among its clients.
Apparently, BSD Group was only in charge of Access Kenya’s rebranding and change management process to Internet Solutions while the internet service provider has outsourced its PR services to ProAktiv Consult, founded and headed by Waithera Kuria, a former Account Manager at H+K Strategies.
It is now confirmed that Wabito has joined Avid PR as a Senior Account Manager, a title similar to his previous position at Tell-Em.
Apart from tech clients, Wabito also has experience in handling other industries including Insurance and Financial services clients. At his new station, he will be in charge of various accounts – Liberty Life, Stanlib Kenya, Stanlib Fahari I-RET and KCB Foundation among others – while being assisted by a team of Account Executives.
Wabito has also handled other brands like International Finance Corporation (IFC), Safaricom, Nokia, General Motors (GM), MTN Business, LG Electronics, Tetra Pak, SEACOM, Coca-Cola, Nokia, Nokia, Siemens, Epson and Qualcomm among others.
Apart from Tell-Em, the other agency that has lost a member of staff to the competition is Engage-Burson Marsteller. Carolyne Chebet, who had been with Engage for over 3 years as a Media Executive, has changed employers by moving from Parklands to join MediaEdge, part of the Redhouse Group, whose premises are along Riverside Drive. Chebet was part of the team that handled the Multichoice Kenya account at Engage.
