2 million shoppers seek deals on Jumia Black Friday, items at upto 95% discount




Close to 2 million eager customers logged into the Jumia Kenya platform for the Black Friday event to secure the best online deals at the earliest time possible from midnight. The retail giant commenced its biggest Black Friday sales event – the 2017 Jumia Black Friday Festival – featuring 500,000 deals upto 80% off, land giveaway in Nanyuki, exclusive mobile phone deals, brand new cars, motorbikes and even live goats.

Within the first hour, Jumia hit a momentous 5X its normal traffic by midnight with a noticeable fast-moving deals on TV’s, laptops, mobile phones, refrigerators and electric cookers.

Hours after going live on Monday morning, Jumia witnessed significant application downloads attracting 10,000 new first time shoppers to experience the Black Friday event.

The much-anticipated event was launched at midnight on Monday as it went live on the Jumia website and will run until December 13th. To ensure that Jumia brings its customers the best deals and widest assortment, the e-commerce giant has partnered with both local and international brands including Mastercard, Infinix, Nice & Lovely, Pampers, Chandaria Industries, Uniliver, Ramtons, Samsung, LG, Oppo, Huawei, Simba Corp and Procter and Gamble.

For the first time ever, Jumia has also teamed up with music entertainment boy band, Sauti Soul to host an exclusive concert Thursday, November 23rd. The exclusive concert will also team up as a shopping event which will feature Kenya’s No. One music band H-Art The Band and top DJ, DJ Crème De La Cream to thrill attendees to exclusive performance and deals packed with lots of exciting giveaways including shopping vouchers.

MD of Jumia Kenya, Sam Chappatte explained that this year’s Jumia Black Friday is designed to bring customers a seamless experience and exceptional value. “We’re always looking to push the envelope for online shoppers and this year we’re bringing an even bigger dimension with brand new cars up to 30% off, exclusive phone deals like iPhone and Huawei Mate-10, a daily treasure hunt of discounted deals up to 95% off and the first-of-its-kind music concert with boy-band Sauti Soul.”

Notably, 80% of all traffic and orders came from urban areas led by Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret and Nakuru a clear indication of improved internet penetration even in areas outside Nairobi.

Also, back by customer demand, the online Wheel of Fortune will also be churning out free shopping vouchers daily to provide shoppers with additional discounts to shop on Jumia. Those who download the Jumia app, will gain special access to a special app-only deals sales event and flash sales in addition to instant notifications to snap up the best deals before they sell out.
