ONGEA! music summit set for February, to attract attendees from Germany

Detlef Schwarte, the co-founder of the Reeperbahn Festival – Germany’s largest Club Festival and one of the major global conferences for the music and digital industries, is scheduled to attend ONGEA! 2018 – the third Eastern Africa Music Summit, on February 15 – 18, 2018 at Sarit Centre Expo Hall, in Nairobi, KENYA.

During his trip, Schwarte will sit through and watch all 32 of ONGEA! 2018’s showcase acts and later choose at least
one to perform at this year’s Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, Germany on September 19 – 22, 2018.

As the overall head, Schwarte is responsible for the international conference of the Reeperbahn Festival that includes a programme of more than 300 sessions, networking events, showcases and award shows; which hosts more than 4,700 delegates drawn from 55 countries.

This September, Reeperbahn Festival shall feature 600 concerts in about 90 venues to 40,000 visitors and run for over 4 days.

“Reeperbahn Festival is a unique event in Europe, concerning its setting, programme and atmosphere. This is what we hear from our guests; and probably this mix is the reason that every year more and more people – fans and professionals – attend,” Schwarte commented about the Festival, in a media interview.

Besides Reeperbahn Festival, Schwarte is also a Partner and MD of Inferno Events – a Hamburg-based public events agency. At Inferno Events, he designs and implements corporate and public events, such as: Night of Knowledge, Hamburg Night of Theatre and German Unification Day 2008, among others.

All year round, Schwarte attends international conferences, speaking regularly on panels. Some of the events he has attended include: Eurosonic Noorderslag (Netherlands), Canadian Music Week (Canada), Oya Festival (Norway) and BIME (Spain).

Beth Achitsa, Production Lead, ONGEA! 2018 said: “So, to Showcase at ONGEA! 2018, for an opportunity to perform at the largest club festival in Germany this year – Reeperbahn – musicians from Eastern Africa should book their exhibition stands now, by e-mailing: Every exhibitor gets 25 minutes on the Showcase Stage, per stand occupied, to impress local and international Festival Bookers, and of course their fans!”

The third annual edition of ONGEA! is being held from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 February 2018 (12pm – 10pm). It includes the biggest concert in Nairobi every February, with over 8 performances every evening (6pm-10pm), for a total of 32 over 4 nights.

ONGEA! aims to help develop the music industry in Africa into one that is professional, transparent and profitable for all.

ONGEA! Africa is a social enterprise of PHAT!, a Nairobi-based firm focused on African music and entertainment.
