H+K Strategies has signed up the Google account from Impact Communications which handled the search engine for about one year from mid 2017.
Prior to Impact, the Google PR account had been with Apex Porter Novelli (formerly called Apex Communication and now simply called APN) for over 4 years, a testimony to the quality services offered by the agency to the client and confirmation of a good working relationship between the two parties.
Again, it’s worth noting that Google, like many other firms, reviews the performance of its suppliers (which include PR and communication consultants) on an annual basis. Therefore, the fact that APN managed to retain the account for 4 years in a row is no mean feat.
Following the departure of and signing up of the Google account by Impact, Cess Kimuyu who had been directly in charge of and handled the Google account at APN also left the firm and moved to Gong Communications as a Senior Account Manager in May last year. Ms Kimuyu has had a long relationship with APN having started off her PR career at the agency in 2007 as an Intern.
She then moved to Gina Din Group for 2 years between 2010 to 2012 where she was part of the team working on the Safaricom and LG Electronics’ accounts before heading back to APN as Account Manager. She’d serve in that role for 3 years till late 2015 when she’s elevated to a Senior Account Manager. Apart from Google, she also handled other accounts including Tecno, Infinix, Bamburi Cement (CSR), Karen Hospital, Unilever, Longonot Gate, KCB Foundation, Ministry of Industrialization (MSME Project), Kenya Wildlife Service, Nairobi Water & Sewarage Company and Sanofi Pasteur among others
Some of Gong Communications’ major account are Garden City, Continental Re, WS Insight and IFC.
Having the Google account at H+K means that Dorothy Ooko, Google’s PR lead for Anglophone and Francophone Africa, has kind of ‘reunited’ with and has another opportunity to work with Sonali Das, currently the PR firm’s Executive Director.
Ms Ooko and Sonali worked together on the Nokia account when the former was the mobile phone vendor’s Communications Manager while the latter was the Account Director at H+K Strategies.
