Regional card processing and electronic payments service provider Paynet Group has completed a project for BanquePopulaire du Rwanda (BPR), the largest bank by customer volumes based in Kigali, which will see the bank’s ATM network acquire Visa transactions.
The project which also involved the Rwanda’s National Switch (RSwitch) is part of a national initiative by the bank to acquire foreign issued cards by integrating an international card acquiring service to its ATM network.
“The launch of BPR’s Visa acquiring service follows an intense project that has seen the completion of Visa CIQ documents , device and host certification to offer the international card-payments service,” said Paynet Group CEO, Bernard Matthewman.
The service is now live and opens up the BPR ATM network to local, regional and internationally issued cards which route through Paynet’sthird party processing centre to Visa.
Paynet has now embarked on the next phase of the BPR project which will see the extension of ATM acquiring to a number of other card associations.
“BPR further demonstrates how banks in the region can grow rapidly by leveraging regional investments to cost-effectively achieve their objectives,” added Mattewman
