WIOCC won the ‘Best Interpretation and Integration of Exhibition Theme’ award at last week’s East African Communications Organisation (EACO) Congress 2013 for best incorporating the congress theme, “Making broadband work for social economic growth in Africa” within their exhibition stand.
The 20th EACO Congress was held on 24th – 28th June 2013 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Kenya. The Congress is the highest decision-making organ of EACO and is held annually in rotation among the five East African member states. It brings together regulators and operators of broadcasting, postal and telecommunications/ICT services. The one-week event drew participants from key ICT stakeholders in the EACO membership (Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya and Tanzania) as well as policy makers and high-ranking government officials from across the region. Together they discussed a wide range of issues touching on Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
Kenya’s ICT Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’I acknowledged the event as making a crucial contribution towards harmonisation of ICT policies and laws that would transform the region into a single ICT investment market. Alongside the Congress, Dr. Fred Matiang’i visited the exhibition stands – including WIOCC’s, to better understand the role WIOCC plays in the East African community with its extensive, high-capacity terrestrial and submarine networks and its end-to-end managed connectivity offerings.
