Tsunami; Kipaji Africa; FBI and #RadioActive are the 4 wildcard finalists to the Orange Beat Ya Street (OBYS) grand finale set for Nairobi on Saturday September 21 in Nairobi.

The OBYS judges – led by Moses “Qqu” Odhiambo – on Sunday September 15, 2013 held a Google+ Hangout at the end of which they revealed the names of the additional 4 crews that will take part in the grand finale to select winner of the Kshs 5 million prize money.

The 4 are Tsunami from Mombasa (Best Runners Up); Kipaji Africa from Thika (Most Promising crew); Nairobi-based FBI (Crowd Favourite) and Thika’s #RadioActive as the Most Entertaining.

While announcing the wildcard finalists, Odhiambo noted that this is one of the aspects that make OBYS a new concept and kind of competition.

“This doesn’t mean that non-finalists are not talented but OBYS is a completely different concept and can be referred to as ‘the Champions League’ of dance. All these groups were voted as the 8 crews to represent their respective towns in the regional finals from which only one was eventually picked to proceed to the final,” stated Odhiambo.

Initially, only the four regional winners – Wapi Wapi from Nairobi; Dabs from Mombasa; SO SICK from Kisumu and Thika’s Sisqo Dancers, were to compete for the top honours. However, the inclusion of the 4 wildcards now means that 8 crews will battle it out for the Kshs 5 million grand prize on Saturday September 28 in Nairobi.

The Best Runner Upthe crew that was perceived to be very close to winning but lost out narrowly or the group which the judges felt deserved to be in the final – as well as the Most Promising crew – the one that displayed creativity, discipline, uniformity and ambition – were selected by the judges.

The Crowd Favourite and Most Entertaining were chosen by fans through a public voting via the OBYS.co.ke portal. The Crowd Favourite –is  the crew that the crowd was supporting from the word go or the group which the crowd would like to see advance to the finals while the Most Entertaining crew is the group that wowed the audience with their presentation style, costume, props as well as music.

There were 4 Wildcard contenders for the Crowd Favourite – Y4C (Kisumu); FBI (Nairobi); Jaspers (Kisumu but based in Eldoret) and Legends from Mombasa while those selected as the 4 possible finalists as Most Entertaining crew were Sic Crew (Thika); Black Blingers (Nairobi); #RadioActive (Thika) and the Storm Dancers (Kisumu).
