Mahindra Comviva has announced that it has been shortlisted in the AfricaCom Awards’ “Best digital music initiative” category for its Digital Music Library services and “Best mobile money service” for EcoCash, a mobile payment service offered by Econet and powered by its mobiquity mMoney solution.
Winners will be announced during the AfricaCom 2013 show in Cape Town on November 13.
Over the past year, Mahindra Comviva has become one of the largest music aggregators in the African continent, having collaborated with over 70 content partners including local and international content providers/copyright bodies/ local artists and production houses in the region.
Currently Mahindra Comviva owns rights for over 170,000 unique music tracks in African, Arabic and International categories, spanning multiple popular genres including Hip Hop, Pop, Inspirational, Classical, Hip Life, Humor, Football Chants, RNB, Gospel, Jazz, Rock, Devotional, Reggae and Retro.
EcoCash service is delivering financial and payment services to the Zimbabweans, the majority of whom are unbanked and thereby providing a mechanism of organized financial services to reach all segments of the society. Mahindra Comviva’s mobiquity mMoney solution provides EcoCash customers with a multi-functional and secure account to receive salaries, initiate international and domestic remittances, buy airtime, pay utility bills and merchant payments. An approximate 3 million Zimbabweans use Ecocash andtransactions equivalent to 22 per cent of the country’s GDP (US 4 10 billion) are processed by the system annually.
