On 6th April 2015, Moses Nakonda, 41, was going about his daily routine of selling tea and Mandazi in his food kiosk, in Mt. Elgon, when at around 2pm a GOtv promoter passed by and asked him to buy a set top box.

“I had kept in the dark without watching television for two months. Luckily, I had saved Sh1, 500 and so I made up my mind to buy the decoder,” said Mr. Nakonda.

Though the father of six didn’t know much about GOtv, the idea that he could become a millionaire even after switching his TV back on was the biggest motivator.

“He told me there was a competition where people were winning one million shillings. When I connected my GOtv in the evening, I saw the advertisement on TV,” says Nakonda.

Mr. Nakonda who was orphaned at the age of 10, got the shock of his life when GOtv officials called with the news of his win.

“I never believed it until I got to MultiChoice office and they told me it was true. I make only Sh500 on a favourable day from the food kiosk which is not even enough to support my family but now i feel this is exciting. Our lives will change,” an elated Nakonda said.

He now plans to provide quality education for his children, buy land and acquire some meaningful occupation for his wife.

Mr. Nakonda is already fond of his GOtv programming especially on local news and the shows on Maisha Magic Swahili channel.

He becomes the first man to win a million shillings in the 8 weeks competition of GOtv’s ‘Dunga Milli’ competition which launched five weeks ago. The competition, which coincidentally had seen ladies win in the past 4 weeks, is rewarding Kenyans on a daily and weekly basis for going digital with GOtv, while enjoying the instant benefits of increased choice in local and international content.

In addition to the one million prize money, there are also daily draws where every GOtv buyer stands a chance to win prizes of Sh15, 000, airtime plus a chance to win annual GOtv subscriptions.

“Congratulations to Mr. Nakonda for going digital.
