Startups from Kenya have until end of day tomorrow – Friday January 22, 2016 – to submit their entries for consideration in 1776’s Challenge Cup, a worldwide tournament for the most promising and life-changing startup.
The application process involves the start-ups / companies submitting their entry through the Challenge Cup website after which the local organizing team will select Competing Startups for the Challenge Cup.
At least 20 companies will compete at a Challenge Cup in the Local level with judges selecting 3 startups to advance from Local competition to compete at the Regional event. Startups that are based in the same city as a Regional competition may apply directly to the regional level, bypassing the local round (however, those which compete and do not advance from the local level may not reapply at the Regional level).
Winning startups from at least 5 local events will compete with startups from that regional city, and judges will select 5 startups / companies to advance to the Global Finals in Washington, DC from each Regional event.
Each competing startup will receive multiple pitch coaching sessions, introductions to industry leaders, and direct support from 1776 members before delivering a 2-minute pitch. The shortlisted start-ups will present a 2-minute pitch of their business and then judges will have 1 minute of Q&A for each startup. After this, 5 winning start-ups will receive flights and hotel (1) for the weeklong Challenge Cup Global Finals from June 5-11, 2016 in Washington, DC.
Afterwards, 1776 will review all Competing Start-ups progress and select a pool of “Wildcard” start-ups, which will advance to Washington, DC for the Global Finals.
Each finalist will also receive a tailored agenda of meetings with potential investors, partners, customers, or experts in their field. This will also include exclusive access to 1776’s full curriculum and mentor network.
Start-ups will deliver a 2 minute pitch with 2 minutes of Q&A at the “Industry Semi-final.” 8 winners from those semi-finals will advance to the Global finals, where they will deliver a 4 minute pitch, receive 3 minutes of Judge Q&A, and be eligible for $175,000 in cash prizes and up to $1,000,000 in investment from the 1776 Seed Fund.
1776, a global incubator and venture fund, is meanwhile set to pitch tent in Nairobi and hold its 2nd edition (Regional phase) of the Challenge Cup in the course of February 2016.
