The COMESA Business Council is set to convene the first COMESA ICT Services Industries Public- Private Dialogue under the theme “It’s an ICT world: Access – Innovation- Policy for Business Competitiveness.” The two-day meeting will from April 20 – 21 at InterContinental Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Public- Private Dialogue aims to bring together regional ICT Regulators together with private sector associations, corporate and multinational firms and SMEs from the ICT industry from 19 COMESA member states among other delegates.
The focus of the meeting is to engage key public stakeholders on private sector interests on issues relating to accelerating ICT access, innovation and policy in the region.
The COMESA Business Council (CBC) is the apex business member organization of COMESA, representing private sector interests to the highest levels of decision making in policy, at the regional level. The CBC provides services in advocacy, business linkages and partnerships and membership development through addressing specific interests of industries on a sector by sector and enterprise basis. CBC has partnered with Microsoft4Africa in convening this Dialogue.
“Economies in the globe are fast being transforming into digital and knowledge based economies and undeniably so, ICT is a key enabler to trade and economic development. The Dialogue will focus on harmonizing common positions of the businesses and regulators in the ICT services industry, in an effort to provide strategic direction to governments on public-private sector solutions to advance ICT for business competitiveness in the region. It will cover access, innovation, data privacy and security, innovation strategies and policy frameworks,” states the event invite.
Among those expected to speaker at the meeting are representatives from Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA), Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) and ICT Authority Kenya.
