After Nairobi and Mombasa, Uber has today announced that its services will now be available in Thika town.
In an email, the firm stated: “uberX has arrived in Thika…We are incredibly excited to announce that uberX is now available in Thika! Whether you’re headed to Thika Falls, Mount Kenya University or anywhere in between – simply request uberX from your smartphone and enjoy the ride.”
As part of the launch offer, all Uber rides to, from or within Thika are 20% off from today till Sunday July 3 at midnight. To benefit from the offer, one has to use the THIKA20 promo code.
Below are some of Uber milestones in Kenya as highlighted in its website:
It’s been over 15 months since Uber hit the streets of Kenya, and it’s been an absolutely exhilarating ride. We are humbled to have moved with you over a million times in Nairobi and Mombasa.
To say #THANKSAMILLION, we thought we’d crunch a few numbers and let you know exactly how much you’ve moved us.
Over 100,000 of you choose Uber every month and since launching in Kenya we have facilitated over a million trips through the platform!
We’ve moved over 70 nationalities in the country since we launched!
We have travelled approximately 8,000,000 km in the time that we have been here.
That’s almost the exact distance to make 10 trips to the moon – and back too!
The longest Uber trip lasted approximately 3 hours over a distance of almost 300 km!
The average ETA in Kenya is 4 minutes.
That’s equivalent to the time it takes to complete 100 sit-ups, take 64 breaths or to show off your best Macarena moves.
We’re in Nairobi and Mombasa.
In 2015, we launched Uber in the Green City in the Sun – Nairobi. Fast forward to 2016, and we’re now in colourful Mombasa as well! What lies ahead? #UberEVERYWHERE
We create experiences which move you.
Places, people and experiences are what truly drive us. Since our launch in 2015, we’ve given you the chance to pitch your ideas to Nairobi’s startup heroes with UberPITCH, and let you get rid of those unwanted tech gadgets with UberRECYCLE for Earth Day.
In 2015, we enabled over 1,000 economic opportunities in Kenya and aim to create thousands more in 2016.
