Liquid Telecom Kenya to live stream KCB Voi Rally on July 23

Liquid Telecom will on Saturday July 23 stream live via it’s YouTube channel the KCB Voi Rally in Kenya, a first for Africa.

Liquid Telecom Kenya, as the 2016 Kenya National Rally Championship co-sponsor, has deployed technology to allow home spectators all over the world to enjoy the rally in Taita Taveta’s Mwatate area, in real time.

The live stream broadcast will kick off at 8am East Africa Time, ahead of the flag-off 14 minutes later, and will feature footage captured by Liquid Telecom’s low flight drones circling over the course throughout the first spectator stage to get close to the action. The drones will be connected to Liquid Telecom’s free Wi-Fi hotspots at the location and linked back over high-speed microwave and satellite to Liquid Telecom’s pan-African fibre network.

“This live stream broadcast of the rally is part of Liquid Telecom Kenya’s commitment to using technology to revolutionise motorsport in Kenya and Africa, with a key strand in our sponsorship agenda being to make the rally championships more accessible to a wider audience,” said Liquid Telecom Kenya CCO Paul Statham.

The live stream will be held on YouTube in Liquid Telecom Kenya’s growing archive of KNRC rally film, including the 64th KCB Safari Rally held in Elementaita in June.

The live YouTube broadcasts of the KNRC will be upgraded with new features in subsequent rallies ahead of the full package of comprehensive rally coverage, which is expected to be unveiled in September 2016 at the Nakuru Safari Rally.

“Rally by rally we will increase the coverage, bringing in a “Fan Park” where guests can watch the stream; streams of a greater number of stages and multiple social feeds: YouTube first, then Periscope, and then Facebook Live, as and when it properly launches here in Kenya,” said Statham.

Earlier this year, Liquid Telecom Kenya announced its sponsorship of the 2016 KNRC in a wide-ranging package supporting drivers, upgrading the championship’s technology, and raising the profile of the Kenyan rallies both nationally and globally. Liquid Telecom Kenya is the official Timing, Results and Connectivity Partner throughout the 2016-2018 KNRC series.

The company is procuring state-of-the-art timing equipment from TAG Heuer, which will bring Kenyan rallies in-line with the latest racing standards globally. Liquid Telecom Kenya will be in charge of operating and maintaining the equipment, as well as supplying the critical communication links. The aim is to improve the quality, safety and precision of the motorsport in Kenya.

Liquid Telecom Kenya also extended its sponsorship of Ian Duncan into the 2016 season additionally Hai, Liquid Telecom’s service for home and small businesses sponsored the all-female team, Rally Chix, led by Tash Tundo and Chantal Young enabling them to participate in the eight championship rallies.
