
The deadline for nominating either individuals or organisations for the 2016 edition of the OLX Social Media Awards (SOMA 2016) is this Sunday July 31, meaning that those who’re yet to nominated their candidates have exactly a week to present their names.
The SOMA 2016 nominations have been going on since June 30 when it was officially opened during this year’s Social Media Day will be marked at the Nailab, in Nairobi.
This year’s has individuals and organisations being nominated in 8 categories. These are Social Network (Facebook Personality award, Twitter Personality award, Instagram Personality award, New Blogger award and YouTube Channel award); Social Corporate (Financial Services award, Retail Services /Products award, Consumer Product award, Tech / Telecom award, Hospitality Service award and Manufacturing award); Government (Social Government Personality and Social State Corporation award); Media (Most Social TV Show, Most Social Radio Show award, News Channel award, Most Influential Media Personality award); Educational Institution (Most Social Learning Institution award and Most Influential Student Leader award); Sports (Most Social Sports Personality and Most Social Sports Club /Association); Entertainment (Most Social Entertainment Personality) and finally Best Use of Social Media (which is further sub-divided into CSR and Agriculture).
Commenting on this year’s nominations and respective categories, Martin Muli, Eyeballs Marketing Director, the organiser of the awards, said: “Agribusiness has grown over the last few years and farmers are now embracing social media as a medium of communication. We want to encourage farmers from rural areas to deploy digital media as an affordable marketing channel.”
Those yet to nominate SOMA 2016 candidates have a week to do so from the nomination’s page.
The Kenya Social Media Awards is an annual event, now in its Fourth year, that seeks to celebrate the growing influence of social media in the country. As Kenya continues to make strides in digital revolution, the role of social media platforms and influencers has become a key component of business growth, government concerns and community development.
The 2016 SOMA awards will build on previous achievements and be held under the themed “Transforming Lives” at the Carnivore Grounds on September 30, 2016.
