Open Data Awards set for November 18 in Nairobi




The inaugural Open Data Awards – #ODA2016 – will be held on Friday November 18, 2016. The They awards are meant to recognise and reward stakeholders in the open data space who have created out of the box solutions or innovations that make it easier for users to access and use open data such as apps, websites, Internet Of Things (IoT) devices and even blogs that concentrate on making data open, thereby spreading access to data.
The awards will have the following categories:
  •  Business Award: Celebrating open data used to transform business.
  •  Public Institutions Award: Celebrating government institutions offering high publishing standards.
  •  Innovation Award: Celebrating open data used as a tool for innovation, in any sector.
  •  Social Impact Award: Celebrating open data used as a tool for social good.
  •  Champion Award: Celebrating an outstanding individual pioneer of open data.
  •  Media Award: Celebrating pioneering media organizations working with data.
The competition is open to submissions collected by both government and private sector / NGOs, civil society, conservation organisations and all other areas.
Nominations, which can be done from the award’ website, close on October 29 while judging of the shortlisted applications will be conducted from November 2.
The awards, to be held in Nairobi, have been sponsored by Open Data Kenya, ICT Authority and Code for Africa.
