Startimes Kenya subscribers are in for a new treat from tonight with the introduction of a new series, Suspects, on DTT 051 and DTH 125.
The new series premieres tonight – Monday November 7, 2016 – and will run every Monday at 17:30GMT (or 7.30pm local Kenyan time) featuring two episodes per day.
Suspects – which has a crime being solved within every episode in a documentary style – is a gritty British crime drama starring Damien Molony and Clare-Hope Ashitey
The main actors in the programme prepared for the series by taking a police workshop with a retired police officer for several weeks. They then learnt interview techniques, police terminologies and general day-to-day lingo used by police officers in their day-to-day work.
Suspects is a procedural crime drama, which uses filming techniques and a directorial approach usually associated with factual programming, giving viewers a unique ‘insider’ feel of a documentary.
With hard-hitting and contemporary cases, the drama focuses on a team of three detectives and their distinctive approaches to the job of policing, as they investigate the circumstances of the crime, conduct forensics on the crime scene, collate and analyse the evidence, and interview their suspects – until they finally identify and charge the perpetrator.
Another series which premiered on Startimes Kenya this November is Wentworth and will be brought to viewers every Tuesday at 19:20GMT (that is from 9.20pm Kenyan time). Subscribers will have an opportunity to enjoy two episodes of Wentworth per day on DTT 051 and DTH 125.
Wentworth has received a mostly positive reception from critics since it first aired, and the first episode became the most watched Australian drama series premiere in Foxtel history.
Critics noted that the series would explore “the politics of women in a world with few men, and how the experience both challenges and changes them, sometimes for the better.”
Wentworth is an Australian television drama series which serves as a contemporary re-imagining of Prisoner, a classic drama series which ran on Network Ten from 1979 to 1986. Lara Radulovich and David Hannam developed Wentworth from Reg Watson’s original concept. The series is set in the modern day and begins with Bea Smith’s (Danielle Cormack) early days in prison. Wentworth is set in modern-day Australia and focuses on Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack) when she first enters prison after being charged with the attempted murder of her husband. Bea is separated from her daughter and sent to Wentworth on remand, where she lives in “an uncertain limbo” until she is sentenced. Starting at the bottom of Wentworth’s hierarchy, Bea is forced to learn how to survive in prison.
