Google held the inaugural event which saw eight countries selected including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal.

Kansiime’s channel, created in April 2012, currently has about 340,000 subscribers.  The channel has the video clips of the multiple-award winning comedienne who also doubles as a TV presenter, actress and writer in a production house, Fun Factory.

A YouTube channel qualifies as soon as it passes the number of subscribers required for each award.

The YouTube Creator awards are currently offered for three channel milestones: 100,000 subscribers (a framed limited-edition silver-plated play button personalized with your channel name), 1 million subscribers (a framed limited-edition gold-plated play button personalized with your channel name) and 10 million subscribers (a limited-edition, diamond-faceted play button personalized with your channel name).

Once a channel qualifies, the Creator needs to look out for a notification in their Creator Studio Dashboard, including the unique order code. They’ll then be able to enter their information and shipping address. The notification should appear in their dashboard in the month following the milestone.

Launched in May 2005, YouTube allows users to discover, watch and share originally-created videos, in this way providing a platform for people to connect, inform, and inspire others across the globe and acts as a distribution channel for original content creators as well as large and small advertisers.
