“The board of directors of MTN Group, following accepted standard governance practice, is assured that Mupita is suitable to take on this important role and responsibility, taking into account his background in the highly regulated and well-developed risk framework in the financial services sector,” stated MTN Group in a statement.

Mupita will take over from Gunter Engling who has been holding the position in an acting capacity following the resignation and departure of former Group CFO Brett Goschen at the end of September this year.

Once Mupita, as the substantive Group CFO takes over, Engling will then assume the position of Deputy CFO from early April 2017 and report to the new CFO.

Brett Goschen left the MTN Group at the end of September 2016 and also resigned from the MTN Group board of directors as an executive director on September 30, 2016.
