Mobisol recently donated a 200Wp solar system to Majengo Primary School in Bagamoyo to support its efforts in promoting reliable solar energy. The power system was officially activated at the end of November by representatives from the District Commissioner office.
The initiative underlines Mobisol’s concern for empowering communities and improving educational opportunities through the provision of clean, reliable solar energy.
The donation of the 200Wp solar system was a gesture of appreciation for the school’s enthusiastic efforts to promote solar energy and Mobisol’s mission in a nation-wide challenge. It will be benefiting more than 1,000 students and 44 teachers. By illuminating three of the school buildings with efficient bright LED lights, both teachers and students can study better on overcast days and teachers can prepare the next day’s lessons after dusk. The solar-power system provides teachers with the opportunity to listen to radio broadcasts using the supplied solar radio, show educational programs on the donated large solar TV and charge phones. Additionally, they can operate laptops and gather educational information via the internet.
The schools headmaster, Mr Lukama said: “This initiative really improves our educational environment. Using the practical example of the solar system, our students can get a hands-on introduction to renewable energy, sustainability and environmental protection.”
The donation is part of Mobisol’s mission to empower communities in Tanzania with affordable and reliable solar energy. The company has so far provided high-tech solar systems to over 65,000 households, businesses and institutions in East Africa. The systems are highly affordable as they can be paid off conveniently via mobile money in a three-year instalment plan. They come with extended warranties, free installation, and comprehensive customer service including a toll-free hotline and free maintenance for three years.
Seth Mathemu, Mobisol marketing team leader, said at the school donation event: “We at Mobisol are happy and proud to give back to the community and to support the youth – who are the future of our nation. We also encourage people to step in for their families in off-grid areas by supporting them to purchase a high-quality solar system. Replacing kerosene will benefit their families’ health, bright lights will allow night-time work and studies – and the ability to power efficient electrical appliances will instantly uplift their quality of life and economic well-being.”
