Wikimedia’s photo contest accepting entries till January 31




Professional and amateur photographers have until January 31, 2016 to submit their entries to Wikimedia Foundation’s Wiki Loves Africa photo contest.

Wiki Loves Africa is an annual contest, hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation, where people across Africa can contribute photos about their environment to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other project websites of the foundation.

This year, the competition seeks submissions that promotes Africa’s rich heritage and culture expressed through music, song, dance and movement.

The first, second and third place winners will receive US $600, US $400 and US $200, in addition to a year’s subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan and a portable power pack. There is also a community prize winner, who will receive US $200 and additional prizes.

The deadline is January 31, 2017.

Wiki Loves Africa is a public annual contest where people across Africa can contribute media (photographs, video and audio) about their environment to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other project websites of the Wikimedia Foundation.Wiki Loves Africa particularly encourages participants to contribute media that illustrate a specific theme for that year. Each year the theme changes and could include any universal, visually rich and culturally specific topic (for example, markets, rites of passage, festivals, public art, cuisine, natural history, urbanity, daily life, notable persons, etc). The project is run across the whole continent, however, some specific actions (training, communication etc.) are held in some countries with national organisers.

Wiki Loves Africa is a two-month competition which started on December 1, 2016 and will end on January 31, 2017. The 2016 theme is: Music and Dance with submissions expected to promote Africa’s rich heritage and culture expressed through music, song, dance, and movement.
