Cisco engages Hill & Knowlton – H+K – as PR agency for Kenya

After more than 8 years of handling its PR and communications needs in-house, Cisco has finally signed up an external firm Hill & Knowlton Strategies Kenya (or H+K) to handle the US-based IT company’s account in Kenya.

From around 2006, Cisco’s Kenya office which acts as the East Africa hub, had retained Peggy Mwai – through her NewAge PR agency – as its PR consultant.

Peggy Mwai handled the PR account and transitioned from one regional boss to the next – that is from Shahab Meshki to Sabrina Dar (who handled as Cisco’s regional boss for a short stint) before she finally opted out during the tenure of current boss David Bunei.

Ms Mwai’s relationship with Cisco seems to have ended following the departure of Rose Bambi, the firm’s former PR and Communications lead for Middle East, Africa and Turkey who quit in late 2015.

After leaving Cisco, Ms Mwai now concentrates on building a new PR outfit which she set up with two other colleagues – MaryAnn Wariithi and Meera Shah. The agency derives its name from the partners’ first name initials – that is MMP (standing for MarryAnn, Meera and Peggy). The agency was in charge of last year’s Innovation Africa Summit held in September at Safari Park Hotel.the

Now moving on – or back – to Cisco’s new PR agency H+K, it seems that the firm has just won the account and it first major event with Cisco was the #CiscoCoonectKE event held at Radisson Blu Hotel in Nairobi this week.

Apart from Cisco, H+K also has other technology firms as clients including Airtel Africa, Lenovo, Intel, Canon and Twitter among others.
