After 5 years, Joel Chacha leaves Tell-Em, joins Ogilvy PR as Account Director

One of Tell-Em PR ‘s Account Managers – Joel Chacha – has left the firm and joined Ogilvy PR as an Account Director. Chacha – who was in charge of the Visa account – left Tell-Em on Friday June 16 after being at the PR firm and serving various clients since December 2011.

And unlike other people who take forever before updating their profiles to let colleagues know about their next professional destination, Chacha did not delay as his LinkedIn page already shows his new station and the position.

Chacha moved to PR in late 2011 from Standard Media Group where he had been a reporter at KTN for just over 2 years.

He served as an Account Executive till July 2015 when he assumed the role of an Account Manager, a position which saw him working on and managing client accounts. As an account manager, he developed and lead PR strategies from formulation through to execution aligning them with the client’s key business objectives and was also responsible for managing day-to-day client activities, including research, planning, implementation and evaluation of public relations activities, and paying careful attention to budgets, resources, deadlines and client records.

In December 2015, Chacha was elevated to Senior Account Manager, a position which held till his departure from the Tell-Em this month.

Chacha joins Ogilvy months after the departure of Cosmas Butunyi, the Lenana Road-based PR firm’s former Account Director who left in March and moved to MediaEdge, part of the Redhouse Group. It maybe be untrue but Chacha is seemingly taking over the position left vacant by the departure of Butunyi, and will be part of the PR firm’s team handling Safaricom.

Butunyi, a former Nation Media Group (NMG) journalist had been with Ogilvy PR from August 2012 having joined as an Account Manager before rising to Account Director in May 2016. At MediaEdge, Butunyi is currently in charge of various accounts including Huawei (devices), Uber and Telkom.
