The Union of Towns and Municipalities of Ivory Coast (UVICOCI) and the Association of Regions of Ivory Coast (ARDCI), United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa) in partnership with the Ministry of Interior and Security of the Republic of Ivory Coast will organize the Inaugural General Assembly for the network of Chief Technical Officers (CTOs) of the cities and territories of Africa (Africa TechNet).
The Africa TechNet forum will run from July 3 to 5, 2017 at Hotel Ivotel in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, with 120 CTOs from the five regions of Africa expected to attend.
Hamed Bakayoko, Ivory Coast’s Minister of State, Interior and Security is expected to officially open the meeting.
There will be an accompanying two days of training around the theme, “Development of Territories and Climate Change: Realities, constraints and opportunities”, organized in partnership with the association, “ENERGIES 2050”.
This training will be the first response by UCLG Africa to requests from African local governments to strengthen their capacities in the implementation of the Paris Accord on Climate Change and in the preparation of dossiers for access to climate finance.
United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa) is the umbrella organization of African local governments whose founding congress was held in the City of Tshwane, South Africa, in May 2005. It’s been headquartered in Rabat, Morocco, since January 2008. UCLG Africa brings together 44 national associations of local authorities from all parts of Africa, as well as 2,000 cities of the continent each one having more than 100,000 inhabitants. The body acts as the regional chapter for the Africa of the World Organization of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG).
