Tonny Tugee leaves Safaricom after 10-plus-year stint, to head SEACOM Business

SEACOM has, in a bid to strengthen its Kenyan leadership team, appointed Tonny Tugee to head its newly launched SEACOM Business in Kenya and its Service Provider segment for East Africa. Tugee will lead an experienced team of ICT professionals with the mandate of driving uptake of SEACOM’s connectivity and cloud services across the region.

Byron Clatterbuck, CEO, SEACOM, said Tugee’s appointment is in line with SEACOM’s commitment to appoint world-class talent with local market expertise to drive its expansion across Africa.

“SEACOM Business will deliver fast, reliable connectivity and high-quality cloud services to Kenyan organizations,” he added. “Mr Tugee has the intimate knowledge of the Kenyan telecom market and the leadership skills we require to deliver the exceptional customer experience that East African enterprises deserve from their telecom partners.”

As regional Head of Sales for Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda, Tugee will have strategic and operational sales oversight over SEACOM’s business across East Africa. He joins SEACOM from Safaricom Limited where he held the role of Head of Enterprise Sales and Retention, leading the team charged with growing and retaining revenues in the business-to-business, business-to-government and wholesale/carrier environment.

Tugee, a long-serving Safaricom who joined the telco in late 2006, holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Nairobi and brings to the table transformative leadership and strategies to grow SEACOM in East Africa. In his new role, he will also serve as the firm’s spokesperson, providing a voice for SEACOM Business in Kenya.

SEACOM is a supplier and partner for African enterprises, network carriers and service providers, offering data services and internet bandwidth.
