Startup of the Year Africa 2018 awards to recognise 5 top firms




The Startup of the Year award, a contest format created by Bonjour Idée with the support of more than 70 partners consisting of large groups, incubators, Chambers of Commerce, media, competitiveness clusters and bloggers, is set for Casablanca, Morocco in January.

While highlighting the most innovative startups, the contest is meant to help highlight the actions of partners within the innovation entrepreneurship ecosystem by connecting the partners with innovative startups.

The contest, which opened in October till mid December through online applications, has so far seen about 600 startups submitting their entries for the 2018 Startup of the Year Africa competition, whose innovative solutions boost the development of the African continent. After the evaluation phase, 20 startups passed the #StartupAfro pre-selection and were presented to the competition jury.

The 5 finalists selected by the Jury will be invited to Casablanca, Morocco to present their innovation and try to become the African Startup of the year after which the winning 5 startups will be announced on January 9, 2018.

The main prize in the contest, dubbed the African Startup of the Year Award, will be a cheque for €10,000 and an additional communication pack worth a similar amount.

Also to be feted is the finance innovation with a prize titled Special Fintech Award Destination Africa which will be given as a reward for an international fintech that is installed or wants to settle in Africa.

Then there’s the Audience Award for to be given to be given to the top startup among the 100 firms voted for during the public voting phase. The Audience Award comes with a €2,000 cheque.
