Opera, the mobile phone browser company, has unveiled Nigerian singer and songwriter Simi as its brand ambassador.
On its Facebook page yesterday, Opera stated thus: “We’re delighted to say that award-winning Nigerian singer-songwriter Simi is joining the Opera family as a brand ambassador. Sweet! 💃🏽🎙️“.

The two partners, that’s Opera and Simi, seems to have been working on the deal in the course of the month going by the singer’s recent posts on Facebook.

A day earlier on January 18, the singer, while teasing the yet-to-be announced deal posted on Facebook: “Heyo!! Listen, I’ve been catching up with something new and super-exciting. More news to come. Don’t blink or you might miss it …” and added another photo:
Simi is a Nigerian Afro-Pop singer and songwriter who began her journey in mainstream music in 2014. Since she signed a deal with X3M Music in 2014, Simi has released various hits including – Tiff, Jamb Question, Love Don’t Care, Smile For Me and also featured in number of hit records such as ‘Soldier’, with Falz, ‘No Forget’ , with Adekunle Gold, ‘Orire’, with Legendury Beatz among others.
In 2016, she released an E.P with rapper, Falz, titled Chemistry.
“She released her Sophomore album “Simisola” in Sept, 2017. The ‘Simisola’ album hit the Billboard World Music charts at number 5, debuted at number 1 on both the Apple Music and iTunes chart, and held its position for three weeks. The album, which currently stands at number 2, is still going strong. Opera has been on a drive to penetrate and attract new users in Africa, a move that has seen the firm introduce new products, open new offices in various countries while also making new appointments to its management team to boost the team.
The appointment of a brand ambassador from the continent is meant to further cement the firm’s position in Africa among existing and potential Opera users who relate with her and her music.
