We always nostalgically refer to “the good old days”. Some of us can be so much stuck (and sentimental) about the past that you may be excused to think that their lives ended with the Huawei IDEOS phone, that’s almost 10 years ago.
When it comes to technology however, “time brings change”, to use that phrase. For technology improves and advances with time, availing more efficient (and in most cases, cheaper) products and solutions to the market. And this is applies to mobile device vendors as well.
When it’s launched in Kenya around 2010, the Huawei IDEOS was retailing for over Kshs 25,000 despite its measly resources compared to models currently going for the same price.
Even within Huawei itself, things have come a long way (and gotten better) since 10 years ago when the Chinese vendor had only the IDEOS as its flagship Android-powered device.
Less than 5 years ago, Huawei unveiled a new line of mobile devices, the Y series, targeting the price-conscious youth segment. And last year, Huawei Mobile Kenya introduced its then latest model in the series – the Huawei Y7 Prime 2018 – in partnership with online retailer Kilimall. The 2018 version of the Y7 was launched at a retail price of Kshs 17,000.
This year, just days before the Valentine’s Day celebrations, the vendor unveiled the #Huawei Y7 Prime 2019, at an entry price of Kshs 18,000.
The two models – Huawei Y7 Prime 2018 and Y7 Prime 2019 – have been released almost a year apart, but the difference in their pricing is just Kshs 1,000. And they share quite a number of similar features and specifications as can be seen below:
