Kenya’s creatives can now showcase their work on the Multichoice talent portal

MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF), MultiChoice Africa’s pan-African shared-value initiative, has launched the MTF Portal. The portal is the third touchpoint of the initiative following the launch of three regional MTF Academies (in East, West and Southern Africa), a 12-month film training programme aimed at upskilling the next generation of passionate young film creatives launched in October 2018 and the MTF Masterclasses launched in January this year to upskill industry professionals.

The interactive online portal aims at profiling and connecting Africa’s industry creatives and bringing pan-African talent and opportunities together in one place. The digital portal will allow filmmakers across the continent to network, find talent and showcase their work.

Access to the portal is through registration on MTF portal which will serve as an authoritative source of industry news, supported by MultiChoice’s long-standing position of being Africa’s leading storyteller. Users of the portal – both up-and-coming talent and industry professionals – can also network with each other, connect and collaborate. The MTF Portal will also provide information on the MTF Academies and Masterclasses.

The MTF Portal forms part of the investment MultiChoice has made to improving the quality and supporting the production of local content and storytelling across the continent.  The MTF Portal will serve both seasoned professionals and aspiring talent in Africa’s film and TV industry.

“The MTF Portal has been a long time coming, especially for a growing and thriving industry such as African film and television. The fact that it is built in Africa and for Africans is what makes this platform one of the most important tools for our industry. From training, mentoring to collaboration, the MTF Portal undoubtedly connects Africa’s film industry in a way that has never been done before, and this is what will keep the essence of storytelling alive,” says Njoki Muhoho, MTF Academy East Africa Director.

The African continent is steeped in a rich and diverse history of living passionately through language, art, music and colourful storytelling. As the continent continues to change rapidly, the entertainment industry has become ever more relevant. MultiChoice Africa has identified an opportunity in this fast-changing environment – one that will have a lasting impact on the industry as a whole. The MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) is a multi-tiered training programme designed by MultiChoice Africa to focus on positively impacting the technical and professional value chain in the film and television industry across the continent. As a business born and bred in Africa we have a long-term commitment to making a socio-economic difference in the countries in which we operate.

As such, this initiative will help to play a positive role in growing Africa’s creative industries into vibrant, economic powerhouses. This training programme which will be rolled out in partnership with stakeholders across the continent will provide the creative industries with a platform to learn and develop their talent, engage and connect with each other through their shared passions. Working hand-in-hand with local creative organisations, regulatory and government partners across the continent, we use our people, facilities and network to provide young emerging filmmakers with a tailored 12-month apprenticeship, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, experience and qualifications to help launch a successful career within the creative industry.

Through the MTF, MultiChoice Africa’s legacy will emphasise our commitment to enriching lives by developing the art of inspired local storytelling and story making, while simultaneously growing local content on our DStv and GOtv platforms and ultimately continue showcasing Africa’s rich cultural heritage and diversity.
