WiSci Girls camp set for Addis Ababa, targets students from Ethiopia and US

The Women in Science (WiSci) Girls camp will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on July 3-16, 2019 for high school girls from Ethiopia and the US. The camp will be hosted by the International Community School of Ethiopia while camp participants will have secure, supervised accommodations, participate in daily STEAM activities in classrooms and attend off-site excursions.

The camp is targeted girls aged between 15 to 18 years, with at least one year of high school remaining during the 2019-2020 school year, who are citizens or residents of participating countries.

Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields and engagement in their schools and communities – if the opportunity has been presented to them. Applicants are encouraged to share if they face any personal and/or financial barriers to furthering their interest in learning about and pursuing educational and extracurricular opportunities STEM fields. Preference will be given to applicants who are interested in learning more about STEM and have limited financial resources or access to other learning opportunities. Additionally, applicants should be willing to have an open mind and interest in cross-cultural learning experiences.

WiSci Camp has been organised through a public-private partnership, with many partners including US Department of State, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, Girl Up, and private sector partners such as Intel and Google, NASA, the American Society for Microbiology and Microsoft among others.
