Andela, the technology company which builds distributed engineering teams with Africa’s top software developers, today announces the appointment of Janet Maingi as its new Country Director for Kenya.

As Country Director, Janet is tasked with bringing on leadership and operational excellence to drive the next phase of Andela Kenya’s growth as a business and as the best place to work for technologists in Kenya. In 2018, BrighterMonday, East Africa’s popular job portal, named Andela as one of Kenya’s best 100 companies to work for.

Sharing her rationale for the move, Janet says: “Technology has transformed the face of business not just in Kenya, but across Africa. This has been made possible by exceptional people. Andela is at the forefront of enabling such exceptional people – software engineers – to work with global teams building software products that impact businesses and consumers. I look forward to leading the Kenyan business through its next phase.”

Andela launched operations in Kenya in July 2015 and currently has one of the largest numbers of engineers in a Kenyan company with over 400 software engineers. The company has since hired and developed over 1,200 software engineers across the continent and integrated them into hundreds of companies, including Safaricom, Mastercard Labs and Github.

Janet joins a predominantly female team of Country Directors – Omowale David-Ashiru [Nigeria], Jackie Ochola [Uganda], and Clément Uwajeneza [Rwanda].

Seni Sulyman, Andela’s VP of Global Operations says: “Andela is advancing human potential by powering today’s teams and investing in tomorrow’s leaders. Kenya represents our 2nd largest office, and we need a strong business leader with broad entrepreneurial and cross-functional corporate experience, who would drive operational excellence as we continue scaling. Janet’s reputation for building and leading cross-functional teams, her values as a leader, and her aspirations for Kenya make her our ideal Country Director.  We are truly excited to have her on our team.”

Andela builds distributed engineering teams with Africa’s top software developers. In four years, Andela has hired over 1,200 developers globally with tech campuses in Lagos, Nairobi, Kampala and Kigali. Backed by Generation Investment Management, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Google Ventures, CRE Venture Capital and Spark Capital, Andela is powering global engineering teams while catalyzing the growth of tech ecosystems across the African continent.
