When we think of amazing casino resorts, our mind usually goes to the ones found in Las Vegas or Macau. However, there are other places in the world which are home to some of the most exotic and unique casino resorts. A few examples could be found in Africa. Because of tourism and government support, gambling activities in Africa have rapidly expanded over the last few years. When it comes to the entirety of the African Continent, South Africa is the leader in all gaming activities across the continent.
Sun City Casino
Just a two-hour drive from Johannesburg and near the city of Rustenburg, Sun City Casino is by no means Africa’s most well-known casino. The resort was built in 1979 by Sol Kerzner. The main inspiration for the resort came from Kerzner’s idea of building a “mythical royal residence built by a lost tribe” in the middle of nowhere, and it seems like that’s just what he did.

The building has some gorgeous architecture which is adorned with beautiful frescoes and mosaics that make this place a true fairy tale destination. The casino itself is home to around 850 slot machines, all having their own unique theme and there are also table games such as poker and roulette. Besides gambling, the casino resort also includes other facilities such as a swimming pool and beautiful gardens which have been awarded South Africa’s Botanical Garden status. The resort deserves to be on everybody’s list of places to visit, even for non-gamblers.
Mazagan Beach Resort
This is a breathtaking destination overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and a welcoming resort for golf enthusiasts. After finishing building Sun City Resort and a few other huge projects, Sol Kerzner turned his eye to the North Western part of the African continent. The man has a thing for undertaking colossal architectural challenges and he has chosen this sunny coastal area with the hope of bringing more tourists to this remote part of Morocco.
The casino features a plethora of slot machines and table games including blackjack and poker. Those who want to take a break from gambling can opt for a dinner at the Jockey Club which is located inside the casino itself. A few other reasons to visit this beautiful establishment is the large number of other activities that one can partake in. The main one, also mentioned above, is golf. Besides that, there is also a spa and a few restaurants to enjoy a good meal.
The Emerald Casino and Safari Resort
Like I said previously, many of the most well-known casinos are located in South Africa. The Emerald Casino, located near Johannesburg, has a variety of accommodations in order for everyone to feel welcomed and have a good time. It’s worth the two hours’ drive from Johannesburg in order to escape the crowded city and taking a few days off to unwind. The resort has many green gardens with walking trails and people can enjoy the tranquility of the nearby Vaal River.
The casino is home to 27 table games of which include blackjack, poker, baccarat and a few others. Beside the table games there are also a large number of slot machines on the ground floor. Other gaming activities besides gambling include bowling and the main attraction of the establishment are the Aquadome Waterpark and Animal World.
The Pyramids Casino Escape
A monument to the great kings of ancient Egypt, The Pyramids Casino Escape is a wonderful example of how ancient cultures inspire modern entertainment. Besides this land-based casino, there is also an online slot game found at Slotpark that seem to also be inspired by ancient Egyptian themes, the game known as Book of Ra. The main building of the casino is quite impressive, consisting of the Sphinx and two Pyramids. Africa is massive and the number of casino resorts on the continent is quite large. However, the examples mentioned above are just an introduction into the African gaming space.
