OLX users to be redirected to Jiji from June 20 following buyout in April 2019

Visitors to the OLX website will from June 20, 2019 be redirected to Jiji after the Nigeria-based classifieds company acquired OLX operations in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Upon going to the site, both buyers and sellers will be able to sign in and continue using their existing accounts the need to create a new one.

In April this year, Naspers announced that Jiji, the largest classifieds marketplace in Nigeria, had acquired OLX operations in 5 markets and OLX users in these markets would thus be redirected to Jiji.

Jiji, founded in Nigeria, expanded to four new markets in 2019. The acquisition of OLX by Jiji is expected to create a single user base of more than 8 million monthly unique users. In April, more 1 million ads were live on the Jiji platform at any given time and in 2018, the Jiji app was the most downloaded app in the Shopping category for Android users in Nigeria, as well as the highest rated app in Nigeria’s e-commerce industry.

Founded in 2006, OLX – a Naspers subsidiary with operations in 45 countries – is a platform for buying and selling services and goods such as electronics, fashion items, furniture, household goods, Properties, cars and bikes. In 2014, the platform reportedly had 11 billion page views, 200 million monthly active users, 25 million listings, and 8.5 million transactions per month.

Jiji is owned by Digital Spring Ventures (DSV).
