Almost a year since he quit his previous position as the PR and Communications manager of OPPO Kenya, James Mugwe Irungu has assumed a similar role at another mobile device vendor, Vivo Kenya.
Irungu joined Vivo Kenya less than a month ago and was part of the team which launched the brand’s latest smartphone in the market, the Vivo V17 Pro which retails at Kshs 41,000.

Before moving to Vivo Kenya, Irungu was a consultant and part of the team behind the new LPG regulations campaign in the country with the Petroleum Institute of East Africa and the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA). He also had a stint as a consultant with New Mark PR agency in the months leading to his new role at Vivo Kenya.
Irungu quit his job at OPPO Kenya in the beginning of the year. He’d worked at mobile device vendor from early 2017 after moving to the company from Kenya Film Classification Board where he worked as a Photographer.
In the months prior to his departure, he had reportedly faced various internal challenges at his work station, leading him to eventually resign on January 1, 2019.
OPPO Kenya’s PR account is currently being handled by Ogilvy PR. It’s however remains unclear whether the brand brought on board an internal resource to liaise with the PR agency for its communications activities.
