Showmax subscribers can now stream 6 live news channels in Kenya




Kenyans can now stream live news on Showmax following the addition of six live news channels to the platform for its viewers.

The live news channels added to the Showmax offering include: BBC World News; Al Jazeera; Sky News; CNN; Newzroom Afrika; and Euronews.

The channels are currently available on the web (for those using Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge browsers), Samsung devices (on models launched from 2017 and LG (on models launched from 2014), smart TVs, Android (4.4.0 or higher) and Android TV. Apple TV and iOS and will be added shortly.

According to Showmax, “this is one more way to keep up with the latest developments from around the world during social isolation or lockdown” brought about by the Coronavirus outbreak.

Launched in Kenya in mid 2016, Showmax is an internet TV (also called subscription video-on-demand – SVoD) service which offers its subscribers a combination of African and popular international content, first and exclusive international series, the best kids’ shows, and live sport. For a single monthly fee, subscribers have unlimited access.

The split of local and international content on ShowMax Select is approximately 50/50.

Subscriber can stream Showmax content using apps for smart TVs, smartphones, tablets, computers, media players and gaming consoles. The service is available throughout sub-Saharan Africa and to selected diaspora markets worldwide.
