Smartphone brand OPPO has unveiled its latest iteration in the A9 series, introducing the OPPO A92 which is the precursor to the OPPO A9 (2020) which was launched in February this year. The two models share various attributes and specifications, including the price (as the OPPO A9 2020 model was also going for Kshs 30,000 even though the cost has since dropped by around Kshs 2,000 to Kshs 28,000).
But before the OPPO A92 could hit the market over a month ago, another model in the series – OPPO A91 – had also been introduced in the Kenyan market with almost the same features and overall specs and at the same price point.
However, before we get over ourselves by comparing the three devices, let’s first highlight the features, specifications and performance of the OPPO A92 then revisit the differences and similarities later on in the post.
So here goes…
OPPO A92 is available in three colour variants – that is colors Twilight Black (the colour of the review unit which we have), Stream White, and Aurora Purple.
It retails for Kshs 30,000, a figure that can be (depending on who you talk to and their budget), be considered reasonable when one looks at the specs, the features and overall performance of the device. Let’s now go through the specs of the OPPO A92:

OPPO A92 comes in a 6.5-inch screen, an ideal screen size for those keen to watch content (whether photos or videos) or play games on their phones. At that size, the user has an immersive experience with their content. Additionally, the screen design has no notch at the top, further leading to a feeling of a larger screen even though there is the hole punch (16MP wide selfie camera) at the top left corner of the screen.
Coupled with the fact that it has no notch at the top (even though there is the hole punch), the other key highlight of the screen is the screen to body ration which is 90.5 per cent, meaning that the screen covers almost the entire surface of the A92’s front. All this for the user’s viewing pleasure when either viewing their content or playing games.
And while watching content on YouTube, the user is able to zoom the content to cover the whole screen, even though this feature is not unique to the OPPO A92.
Earlier, we mentioned that the Kshs 30,000 price tag is fair for the OPPO A92. Now let’s look at its performance.
The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor with Octa-Core CPU. Then, compared to other devices within this price range, it comes with an 8GB of RAM for the perfect speed even while running several apps in the background and playing games. Then with the 128GB of internal storage, OPPO A92 accords the user peace of mind while saving their files – be they games, movies or music – without thinking about the need to delete old files to create space for new content because of space constraints.
OPPO A92 also comes equipped with super-linear Dual Stereo Speakers and Dirac 2.0 sound effects with the ability to automatically identify music, videos, as well as games.
The device’s 5,000mAh battery takes away the anxiety about the phone running out of charge even with daily intensive use while 18W fast-charge feature enables the user to quickly recharge it.
The 48MP back camera seems to be slowly becoming the standard for devices within this price segment and OPPO A92 is no different. The device has its 48MP AI Quad camera, 8MP ultra-wide lens, a 2 MP depth sensor and a 2 MP. Then the user still has an LED flash within the same component.
Still on camera, OPPO A92 has a Video Anti-Shake capability which enables users to take and record clearer and more stable video clips.
One unique feature about the OPPO A92 is that its fingerprint scanner is mounted on the right-hand side, on the same area where the power button also sits. For those who’re uncomfortable with having the finger print scanner on the side of the device, remember you can still set and use the good old password or the facial recognition as a security feature.
Even though OPPO A92 is not the first (and only) device to have the fingerprint scanner mounted on the side, this is a first for the brand and A9 series. The OPPO A92’s predecessors also had their fingerprint scanners mounted at different positions – the OPPO A9 (2020) had its fingerprint scanner at the back while the OPPO A91 had the fingerprint within the screen. That’s why we said at the beginning that the three models – A9 2020; A91 and now A92 – are quite similar yet at the same time, very uniquely different.
