Telkom Kenya already has some of the most reasonably priced (let’s just be honest and call them ‘cheapest’ for that’s what they’re) data bundles in the market, even though the network’s internet speeds can at times be slow and connections unstable.
Let’s take a look at Telkom’s data bundle offers, that’s in addition to the daily Telkom 1GB free data. There’s the 2GB (plus 2GB bonus data from midnight, free WhatsApp access and free Telkom minutes) bundle valid for 24 hours for Kshs 100; 700MB (plus 700MB bonus data active from midnight) valid for a day for Kshs 60; and then the Night 5GB data offer (valid from 10pm to 6am) for just Kshs 50. Of course this is not all as the network has other weekly bundle packages on its data offers’ list.
Moving to Monthly data packages, Telkom Kenya has various offers – 30GB for Kshs 2,000 bundle; 10GB for Kshs 1,000 Combo Package (which comes bundled with 300SMS, 150 all net minutes with no expiry deadline); and the 50GB for Kshs 3,000 (with free WhatsApp access).
However, to further up the ante in the mobile data segment, Telkom Kenya has now taken it a step higher. The telco is running a promo whereby subscribers can get 60GB of data valid for 30 days (counted from the time and date of purchase) for just Kshs 1,000. The only catch is that the bundle can only be purchased on Fridays from 0001hours to 2359hours the following day, that’s just before midnight (or Saturday morning).
And to purchase the 60GB monthly bundle for Kshs 1,000, dial 5440# and follow the appropriate prompts from your Telkom Kenya line.
What remains to be seen is whether this will become a permanent data bundle on the network or is just a brief promo to gauge the response from the market (and possibly, attract more data subscribers to Telkom).
In August last year, Airtel Kenya tried a similar promo, offering subscribers an unbeatable offer of 75GB of data for 30 days for Kshs 1,000. However, Airtel Kenya scrapped the offer after less than a month.
