Tonny Tugee, SEACOM’s regional MD, resigns after 4 years

SEACOM announced that its Regional Managing Director for East North East Africa, Tonny Tugee, has resigned. Mr Tugee joined SEACOM from Safaricom in 2017 as Head of Sales and was later appointed to the position of Regional Managing Director.

During his tenure with SEACOM, Mr Tugee has been instrumental in steering SEACOM’s growth in East Africa, which remains one of the organisation’s key markets. By leading a team of experienced ICT professionals, the regional team in Kenya has delivered high quality and affordable Internet bandwidth into dynamic and ever-expanding markets.

SEACOM is poised to continue building on this success to further cement its position in the region.

Steve Briggs, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer (CSMO) at SEACOM Group takes this opportunity, on behalf of SEACOM and its shareholders, to thank Mr Tugee for his contributions to the business and wishes him the very best with his future endeavours. “Tonny has been a valuable part of our business, driving growth and expansion in the East Africa region. His efforts have supported SEACOM’s purpose of connecting Africa to the world.”

Mr Tugee, who joined SEACOM from Safaricom in late 2017, states:, “I am sincerely grateful to SEACOM staff and customers for the past few years in which we increased access to broadband Internet in Africa. We have a way to go in narrowing the digital divide on the continent, and SEACOM remains a critical player in bridging this divide. I am truly grateful to have been a part of an organisation that enables more and more citizens to participate in the digital economy.”

SEACOM launched Africa’s first broadband submarine cable system along the continent’s Eastern and Southern coasts in 2009. Through its ownership of Africa’s most extensive ICT data infrastructure – including multiple subsea cables and a resilient, continent-wide IP-MPLS network – SEACOM provides a full suite of flexible, scalable and high-quality communications and cloud solutions that enable the growth of the continent’s economy.

SEACOM is privately owned and operated, allowing the company the agility to rapidly tailor-make and deploy new services, commercial models, and infrastructure in response to customer requirements.
