OPPO: Gaining ground, enhancing connectivity

The World Mobile Congress saw internationally-leading smartphone developers push the boundaries of innovation and break the glass ceiling when it comes to what exactly a handheld device can do. OPPO announced numerous technology revolutions, including major breakthroughs in flash charging, and that is just the cusp of what the business is bringing to South Africa. Later this month, the OPPO Reno 7 series will launch locally bringing an additional premium device that is set to change the mobile landscape.

OPPO expands its stronghold

OPPO, which has a one-year presence in the South African market, achieved double digit market share at the end of 2021, exceeding more than 10% in the postpaid market according to GFK. This showcases the brand growth in an already diluted technology market. Coming to South Africa, OPPO saw the opportunity to leverage a unique ecosystem of a fast-developing country to further amplify its technological infrastructure.

“Launching locally, we were well aware of the challenges and competitive climate. At OPPO, we create world-class technology built for mankind, and we know that South Africans appreciate capabilities that don’t break the bank.” says Avashnee Moodley, Head of Marketing at OPPO South Africa.

As one of the global leaders in smartphone design and manufacturing, OPPO has placed a firm emphasis on developing technology that creates digital opulency. Whether it’s the photography AI that specifically targets light and distortion when capturing images for studio quality results or improving infrastructure to enable 5G connectivity, OPPO is dedicated to re-engineering the smartphone experience.

Ready for more

Since 2012, premium smartphone options have diversified, coupled with an increasing daily screen time by individuals, access to a smart device has become a necessity. With customers spoilt for choice, there are only so many key differentiators that etch one brand above another, and OPPO plans to play to its strengths across design, flash charging, photography and partnerships.

“The Mobile World Congress was just the start of what is set to be our grandest yet for South Africa, as we look to bring global excellence to shores of home. We’re excited for what’s to come and can’t wait to see how everyone interacts with our latest offerings designed to make life better.” concludes Moodley.

OPPO hints at big plans on the verge for the South Africa market, stating that citizens can expect a wider product range that brings premium world-class technology at just a tap.
