
Safaricom has announced the appointment of Cynthia Karuri-Kropac as the telco’s Chief Enterprise Business Officer from beginning of September 2022. Cynthia joins us from AT&T, where she was the Senior Director, Enterprise Mobile and IoT Technologies, since 2019.
She takes over the role which fell vacant after the departure of Kris Senanu at the end of May this year. Senanu held the role for less than one year. Since his exit, Joseph Wanjohi has been acting as the interim Chief Enterprise Business Officer from 1st June 2022, during which time the telco has been sourcing for the right talent to take over the crucial role.

“As we welcome Cynthia to the Safaricom family, I would also like to thank Joseph Wanjohi for his leadership and steering of the Enterprise Business team during the last 3 months,” said Peter Ndegwa, the Safaricom CEO in a statement.
Cynthia’s career at AT&T spanned 19 years, having joined BellSouth in 2003 as a Senior IT Client Account Management Lead before taking on the role of Director, Mobile Service Delivery and Operations, for Cingular Wireless in 2008. In 2010, she was appointed AT&T Global Lead and Director, Enterprise Solutions and Sales Support, a role she held until 2019 when she took up her latest role as Senior Director, Enterprise Mobile and IoT Technologies.
Prior to joining AT&T, Cynthia worked for Accenture/Andersen Consulting as a Senior Manager for 7 years.
With over 20 years’ experience in the Telecommunications sector, Cynthia has a wealth of knowledge in various crafts, including Business Strategy, Industrial IoT, Enterprise Technology Solutions, Executive Advisory & Decision Support, Operational Excellence and Process Reengineering.
She holds a Bachelor of Finance from the University of Toledo, Ohio, and an MBA in Finance and International Business from Kent State University, Ohio.
Diring her career journey, Cynthia has been the recipient of several company and industry awards in various capacities, including recognition by Women of Color Magazine as a Rising Star in STEM, and as top Supplier of the Year award for the largest Healthcare OEM in the world.
